| Save time with copy paste shortcuts in Windows [Online Tech Tips] Posted: 10 May 2008 06:25 AM CDT Have to copy and paste a lot of files in Windows? However much you try to avoid it, eventually you have to move or copy a bunch of files from different folders and paste them into one folder. Or you might have to copy files from one location on your hard drive to multiple destinations. Either way, it can be a royal pain because you have to keep navigating to different folders or have 10 different windows open for each location you are copying and pasting from. The most annoying thing is that you can only copy one item at a time. It would be nice if there was some kind of copy paste “buffer” where you could copy 10 items from different and then paste them all at once. Piky Basket is a freeware Windows utility that I have seriously become addicted to! Piky Basket was created to save you time and effort when working with files and folders in Windows and it does a great job! It does three things that make working with lots of copying and pasting a lot easier: Copy, Copy, Copy, Paste, Paste, PastePiky Basket allows you to select files/folders into a virtual “basket” from different locations. Once you are done copying, you can paste them all at once to the target folder. It also allows you to selectively paste the files to the target folder. Piky Basket is very useful in the following situations:
In Windows Explorer, select the files and folders you wish to copy/move. Right click and choose “Piky Basket | Drop into the Basket“. Continue dropping different files and folders in the same manner as you desire. Now go to the target folder where you wish to copy/move the files. Right click on the white area and choose “Piky Basket | Copy All” or “Piky Basket | Move All“. This action will copy/move all the files in the basket to the target folder. Copy File Paths to ClipboardBy default in Windows, you can only copy the folder path to a file, but we often need to copy and paste the entire path. For example, if I am browsing files in My Documents\My Pictures and I want to copy the path to one of photos, I have to copy the folder path from the address bar and then append the file name to the end of it in a text editor. With Piky Basket, you can get the file paths of the selected files/folders in Windows Explorer. Another cool thing is if you are copying the file paths from a mapped network drive, Piky Basket will prompt you if the paths must be in Universal Naming Convention (UNC) format (eg. \\servername\sharename\foldername ). It is a quick way to allow your coworker to access the files\folders over the network. Command Prompt AnywhereIf you work with Windows command prompt (cmd.exe or command.com) very often, then you will really like this feature. You can launch the Command Prompt from a selected folder in Windows Explorer with the current directory set to the selected folder. Overall, it’s a great utility program for Windows if you find yourself copying and pasting a lot in Windows! So if you’re looking for how to copy and paste in Windows, this tool is for you! Enjoy! | Napster founder Shawn Fanning’s startup Rupture bought by EA [TechZilo] Posted: 10 May 2008 06:21 AM CDT Napster founder Shawn Fanning founded Rupture, a social-networking gaming company (startup). Little did he know that his startup would be brought over by Electronic Arts, a popular game studio. He will be working at Electronic Arts, which has bought Rupture for USD 30 million. Rupture's first product was a social network for players of the online video game World of Warcraft, but it only came out with a beta version and kept delaying its public launch. EA is buying Rupture for its backend technology. EA will not get any benefits of new users, as the service was in beta and has not launched any non-beta version. Social networks for massively multiplayer online games (MMOG) may well become a key component of EA’s online strategy. Rupture has been largely unheralded, having previously raised just $3 million in VC funding last summer. Napster was Fanning’s first startup which he started while in college, and operated between 1999 and 2001. It revolutionized music industry and presented new challenges before them, but it went bankrupt and was closed down after a court order. However, it led to the starting of numerous other file sharing networks, which have been much harder to close down.
| i.Scribe - Fast, Safe and Portable Email Client [Online Tech Tips] Posted: 10 May 2008 06:01 AM CDT Ease of access is one of the reasons why web based email or web mail programs such as Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail and others are the most popular way to compose, read, send and receive email these days. However, do you know that using an email client has its own advantages? The ability to download and compose emails offline, when no Internet connection is available is one of the primary reasons why some of us still prefer to use an email client instead of being fully dependent on web mail. Another advantage of using an email client is that you have a single point of access for all email accounts and contacts that you have. There are many cool email clients out there that you can use, such as Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird, Incredimail and others. i.Scribe is yet another email client that is fast, safe and portable - so you can take your emails with you, anywhere you go. i.Scribe Featuresi.Scribe is a lite version of the Scribe email client but that doesn’t necessary means that it is light in features. Here are some good reasons on why you should choose i.Scribe as your email client:
Overall, the best part of i.Scribe is that I can download, read and compose my emails anywhere, anytime that I want to. The fact that it is built with the ability to secure your emails and contacts from viruses are also a big plus. Try i.Scribe today! | “The Operation Could Not Be Completed” Error Message with Nokia Mobile Phones [Killer Tech Tips] Posted: 10 May 2008 04:05 AM CDT Recently, I encountered an error when trying to transfer some MP3 files to my dad’s Nokia 3110c mobile phone from my computer. Everytime I tried to copy and paste some files into the memory card present in the phone via the Nokia Phone Browser, it showed an error dialog with a message saying “The operation could not be completed”.
I scouted for some solutions on the web, and here are two possible solutions that could solve the issue.
In case, you’re still getting the error with the message “The operation could not be completed”, follow these steps:
If you’re still unable to transfer files, you need to format your memory card. Hope that solves your problems. Use the comments section to voice your questions and doubts.
| Is starting a podcast - good idea or bad idea? [ReviewSaurus - The Techie Dino!] Posted: 10 May 2008 02:47 AM CDT Jim Kukral has posted a question or rather has asked everyone to start a podcast of your own because he believes that it’s really important to start a podcast at this point of time. The reason is that he thinks that it’s the perfect time to start a podcast as it’s still in early stages and by the time, podcasts will grow huge, you’ll have a pretty big archive. I agree with Jim on this part completely and I’ll say that here are some of the reasons why I would like to start a podcast of my own or may be screencasts : 1. It’s the right time to start one. (The point made by Jim). Well with all these benefits I certainly believe that it’s a nice idea to start a podcast and now my question for you is that what kind of videos/screencasts would you like to see on this blog. I’m certainly going for it and I hope that you too should also start one. © BloggingSaurus - ReviewSaurus | TipsoSaurus | ||||||||||
| ZDNet, TechCrunch, ReadWriteWeb; They’ve got it wrong [Brajeshwar] Posted: 10 May 2008 01:56 AM CDT Illustration by Brajeshwar Rich Internet ApplicationsHow some high profile sites got it all wrong! I was willing to brush it aside as another harmless mistake by some high profile sites, “we all make mistakes”. However, Mrinal’s second tweet (Mrinal’s articles are here and here) got me thinking and wanted to bring forth some clarifications for the Rich Internet Applications (RIA) realm. ZDNet Recently, Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet wrote an article — Microsoft Live Mesh to get more competition from Sun. While talking about JavaOne where Sun unveils their future cloud-computing platform — Hydrazine — which will be in direct competition with similar offerings from Microsoft, Google, Amazon and others, she wrote “Robert Brewin, Sun Chief Technology Officer and Distinguished Engineer, described Hydrazine as a combination of Amazon’s Elastic Cloud, Microsoft’s Live Mesh and Google Analytics all rolled into one. It’s a platform that Sun is building on top of JavaFX.” From the article, it is definitely clear that Hydrazine is a server side solution and JavaFX is a client side solution. So, how can Hydrazine be built “on top” of JavaFX? “JavaFX, which is Sun’s rough equivalent to Adobe AIR and Microsoft’s Silverlight.” Wrong Again!
Further down in the article, she have written “Sun also is working on JavaFX Script, a new scripting language that will do for Java developers what FlexBuilder and Expression Blend are for Adobe and Microsoft developers, respectively.” This is Blasphemy,
TechCrunch Duncan Riley of TechCrunch wrote about — Adobe AIR Vs Microsoft Silverlight — which I believed is wrong right from the title. It could have been Adobe Flash Player vs Microsoft Silverlight! Here, Duncan wrote, “There’s no arguing that AIR is highly capable, but so is Microsoft’s Silverlight.” Well, to put things in a simple way — Adobe AIR is the platform independent Desktop Client with built-in Flash Player. It would have been way better to do a comparison of Adobe Flash Player and Microsoft Silverlight and not Adobe AIR with Microsoft Silverlight. ReadWriteWeb Bernard Lunn of ReadWriteWeb wrote about MetaASO: A Bootstrapped P2P Startup From India. “MetaASO stumbled at the first hurdle for me, which was that you need Silverlight and that means a PC (I use a Mac).” How cool! Guys, they’re on Macs and no PCs. But, Silverlight can run on a Mac. Silverlight is a browser plugin just like Flash Player and runs on both PC and Mac. Silverlight is a cross operating system, cross browser plugin which is very similar to Adobe’s Flash Player. It has a subset of abilities of the .NET Runtime. The term Silverlight also includes the web application library built on top of the runtime and this library is very similar to Adobe’s Flex Framework. Microsoft’s .NET runtime is a Windows only desktop runtime. Some version of it is included in most recent version of Windows. It allows you to run Windows desktop applications. Well, these are the facts churned out by the top profile sites, rendering the prospects of the future Rich Internet Applications, eerr, rather bleak! Or do we really care? Related Articles

| how to add effects to photobooth images or ichat! [ReviewSaurus - The Techie Dino!] Posted: 10 May 2008 01:28 AM CDT PhotoBooth is an excellent utility from Mac which allows you to take quick pictures from iSight camera of Macbook or any other USB webcam. Although the images are quite plain and if we want to add effects to those images then we’ll need to dip our hands dirty into image editing field and trust me that’s not at all easy! Well, for lazy people like me software or utilities like CatEye come pretty handy. This utility puts various effects in photobooth and iChat. So if you want to take a still photograph showing the retro effect then it will be as simple as clicking a picture from Photobooth or while chatting with your friends you can show these wonderful effects through the iSight webcam. CatEye package comes with RetroPixels, Love for 80s and Bent Pels effects packages and is pretty simple to install, just extract the .QTZ files into the folder /Library/Compositions. That’s it and when ever you’ll open PhotoBooth or will launch iChat, it’ll show you the list of effects like you see in the above given image. © BloggingSaurus - ReviewSaurus | TipsoSaurus | ||||||||||
| Alunch : Perfect Application Launcher for OS X [ReviewSaurus - The Techie Dino!] Posted: 10 May 2008 01:07 AM CDT We’ve reviewed quite a few application launchers of OS X and every time loved the utilities as they were not only getting better as an application launcher but making life simpler for a user and this time we are reviewing aLunch. Although, aLaunch would have been a better name for it, so the developer can take one suggestion on the name itself. Till this time I was impressed by TigerLaunch (our review), however aLunch is one step better than TigerLaunch as it allows us to create sub menus and that was the only missing feature in TigerLaunch. Another additional feature of aLunch is that it not only allows you to put the shortcut for applications, it lets you put you the shortcuts of folders and files too. You have to configure the menu completely and I guess that it can be a Pro and Con both. I find no problems in configuring the menu from scratch, as I find it better that I get to take control of the menu from the word go, however few may find it irritating that it doesn’t even list the applications. It supports drag and drop of application so it becomes fairly easy to add applications or files in the menu. Overall, it’s a wonderful utility and is the perfect application launcher ever built for Mac OS X. © BloggingSaurus - ReviewSaurus | TipsoSaurus | ||||||||||

| Posted: 09 May 2008 11:33 PM CDT It may be a big deal getting lots of fans on Digg. Most of us get minimum ten friend requests daily and there is a whole bunch of friends on Digg. Now, how many shouts do you get on email everyday from all of these friends? Quite some isn’t it? And how many do you reply to or digg? Well, keep the answer to yourself. The question is - How can you effectively use the friends and community on digg to market your websites on Digg? Digg is a community where everyone is on the look out for networking. The basic motive of course is to harness the power of community. Let me take you through the process of “digging”. Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Step 1 and Step 2 are comparatively easier steps, but what matters most is the third one - growing your network. How can you grow your network on Digg? Now, the bigger question is - What do you mean by popularity on Digg? Unfortunately, that’s not a guarantee and I wonder if the top diggers would say such a thing. But essentially, what all of us are aiming to is to be able to submit a story and when you share it with friends, all of them digging it. I’d call it the the Digg Power Quotient. Digg Power Quotient = (No. of diggs on an article in an hour / No. of friends in the circle) / No. of diggs from the community in an hour This may not be the best metric though sometimes because we’ve all seen cases where a guy with less than ten friends submitted a story that made it to the top. Excluding all those “miracles”, if there is someone who has a very healthy “Digg Power Quotient”, then I think he has the potential to make a story popular. This article may not make any sense at all because Digg is an unpredictable community sometimes, and things can work at a totally different pace and dimension than expected, for the good or the bad. But some pointers on how to be a popular guy on Digg is interesting ! What practices will get you popular on digg? Again, with all the unpredictability taken into account, let me share a few observations. 1 - Digg ONLY relevant articles that are related to your interest. 2 - Participate in the community 3 - Comment as much as you digg 5 - Don’t digg stupid articles 6 - Respond well to shouts 7 - Create trust among the community 8 - Sharing is the key Copyright © 2008 DailySEOblog.com. | Fix “Disc Burner or Software not Found” Error in iTunes [TechBuzz] Posted: 09 May 2008 04:13 PM CDT Earlier today, I was trying to backup my iTunes library to disc, but iTunes just wouldn’t let me do that. It said “….” Since this is my first try, I thought that iTunes required some software component for the burn function to work. I also knew that iTunes recognized my DVD burner, since it was listed under Advanced > Burning tab in Preferences. After troubleshooting for a while, I found out that Daemon Tools is the culprit. Daemon Tools is a software for inserting virtual CDs, mostly useful for playing games without it’s actually DVD. I tried uninstalling Daemon Tool, but that didn’t solve the problem. I dug a little deeper and found an add-on called SPTD v1.50. It repairs Daemon Tools to fix the incompatibility issues with iTunes. It’s available for both 32 bit and 64 bit operating systems. You can download it from here. Thanks to iPodlounge member “squadronx“. | ||||||||||

| Modify Boot Manager in Vista with VistaBootPRO [-| Life Rocks! 2.0 |-] Posted: 09 May 2008 09:43 AM CDT From Windows XP to Vista, there has been a change in the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) registry editing and normal users may find it difficult to edit the BCD file. This job can be easily done with VistaBootPRO. VistaBootPRO is a freeware which was developed to make changes to the Windows Vista Boot Configuration Data registry quickly and easily, doing the job in a fraction of the time it would take using the alternative. VistaBootPRO allows users to easily and neatly organize their boot configuration entries. One thing that is really good about this utility is the ability to backup your boot manager before you change anything, that way you don't have to worry as much about screwing something up. System Requirements: Windows XP (Home, PRO, x64, MCE 2005), 2003 Server, Vista, or Longhorn Server. All systems must have .NET 2.0 Framework. You need to run VistaBootPRO as administrator mode for changing the boot settings. | ||||||||||
