How to Protect your Photos in Facebook [-| Life Rocks! 2.0 |-]

Posted: 04 May 2008 06:51 AM CDT

Privacy is one thing which everyone would like to see in any social networks or photo sharing sites. Facebook also has privacy options to protect your personal photos, so that it can be viewed by only you or people selected by you. This is important especially because of the fact that there is lot of hacking going on in these social sites.

facebook

To enable privacy on your photos, click on the Privacy link on the top right corner of your account. In the privacy options, select Profile. In the options for profile, select customize from the drop down list for “Photos Tagged of You”.

Ultimate Keyword Analysis For Articles [Online Tech Tips]

Posted: 04 May 2008 06:12 AM CDT

I am sometimes overwhelmed by the amount of content online – and I wondered – how much of this content is keyword optimized? In a recent quest to find the best article keyword density analyzer, I found a lot of sites that allow you to analyze your web pages, but not many that allow you to analyze the text PRIOR to posting it online. However, there was one gem in the vast array of so-called keyword density analyzers (http://www.live-keyword-analysis.com).

These days, it's no longer enough just to create and post your content on the internet; it actually takes focus to create not only interesting subject matter, but making sure interested readers can easily locate your content in the boundless sea of information on the web.

So how do you ensure the subject matter will be found and read? The best way to ensure that your content gets attention is by using a keyword density analyzer, a type of search engine optimization software to maximize the results of a contents exposure on the web.

SEO basically is used to make sure that content posted on the internet is found by search engines spiders like Yahoo!, Google, and MSN- which makes it easier for browsers to find specific information. By using specific keywords in an article, a search engine will find the keywords from the article and instantly measure the keyword density to make sure it can be ranked by a search engine.

The most popular online tool for measuring the keyword density is a keyword density analyzer, which measures the percentage of keyword saturation. There are a lot of free seo tools that help in maximizing the results of keyword density, but this has to be the most effective tool to ensure that a website or keyword rich article will be found by the search engines.

The best thing about this tool is that there are so many websites offering their services for free, but most sites like Keyworddensity.com, only allow content creators to post the URL of their website to measure their contents keyword density. However, for those people who would rather see the results before posting their content to a website, there is a great alternative called Live-Keyword-Analysis.com.

This site does not ask for the URL to locate your posted content, it analyzes a contents density from an easy cut and paste box. Better yet, it actually measures the keyword density in real time, so one can edit their content while watching the keyword density saturation percentage increase. Once the keyword density rate is at an appropriate rate, the content can be simply cut and pasted into your website or URL and posted – it's really that convenient to use!

What other keyword density analyzers have you found? Are there any better ones out there?

Presdo - Simple online scheduling [Online Tech Tips]

Posted: 04 May 2008 06:00 AM CDT

Have you ever thought of getting your own personal assistant? Never having to worry about missing meetings, dinner plans, or other special events would be a wonderful thing. The Internet has thousands of online scheduling applications that allow you to remember those special occasions with a little help.

However, not all of them are user friendly or simple to understand. After trying a few online scheduling applications, I was able to locate another one that works well. Not only does it allow me to quickly add needed details, but the registration process is a quick one as well.

presdo1

Presdo offers its users a simple interface that looks very similar to Google’s search page. To get started, just type in what you want to do and with whom. Typing in the phrase "Dinner with Steven" will guide you to the next process of adding more detail such as email addresses, time, and destination. This added information will provide you and the receiving party details about a proposed meeting or appointment.

presdo2

Users can choose a specific destination by searching through the local listings on Google’s map application. Choose the nearest location to yourself, the other person, or somewhere in between. There is also an option that will allow you to view a list of nearby locations. If you choose to register your own personal information first, this will give you the opportunity to add your email address and current location. Having this already stored in your account will make the scheduling process even easier.

presdo3

Presdo is very intuitive when it comes to some of the information you add. It can intelligently guess the day and time of scheduled appointments. If you would prefer your own customized time, then just insert it instead. When you have finished adding your information to Presdo, it will quickly send an email to the receiving party.

They can look over the information and then select "yes" or "no" to your invitation. Another useful feature of this application is that the person that receives the invitation will also have the option of recommending another time more convenient for them.

Users that want to work with their existing Outlook, Yahoo calendar, or Google calendar can automatically export a scheduled meeting to each of these. Doing this will help to keep everything working order. Since Presdo is very intuitive in its design, it can also remember the entered information of each person you schedule an event with. Instead of having to type it over and over again, the application will smartly remember it for the next time.

presdo4

Currently Presdo is being offered as a totally free service, but this may change in the near future. It does lack some useful features, such as a full messaging capability. Hopefully, it will soon incorporate a text messaging feature as well. Presdo is a good application for basic scheduling needs and even a well functioning "to do" list.

Microsoft Unable to Buy Yahoo! [Quick Online Tips]

Posted: 04 May 2008 02:47 AM CDT

After weeks for speculation and discussion on the Microsoft bid to buy Yahoo! and the resistance from Yahoo!, Microsoft has finally withdrawn its bid to buy Yahoo! and the battle of the internet giants seems to have paused for the meantime, till either gets more money….

Microsoft issued a press release announcing the withdrawal and also quote the letter written by Steven A. Ballmer (Chief Executive Officer, Microsoft Corporation) to Jerry Yang (CEO and Chief Yahoo).

“In our conversations this week, we conveyed our willingness to raise our offer to $33.00 per share, reflecting again our belief in this collective opportunity. This increase would have added approximately another $5 billion of value to your shareholders, compared to the current value of our initial offer. It also would have reflected a premium of over 70 percent compared to the price at which your stock closed on January 31. Yet it has proven insufficient, as your final position insisted on Microsoft paying yet another $5 billion or more, or at least another $4 per share above our $33.00 offer.”

"Despite our best efforts, including raising our bid by roughly $5 billion, Yahoo! has not moved toward accepting our offer. After careful consideration, we believe the economics demanded by Yahoo! do not make sense for us, and it is in the best interests of Microsoft stockholders, employees and other stakeholders to withdraw our proposal," said Ballmer.

Yahoo! responded by issuing a statement

“From the beginning of this process, our independent board and our management have been steadfast in our belief that Microsoft’s offer undervalued the company and we are pleased that so many of our shareholders joined us in expressing that view. Yahoo! is profitable, growing, and executing well on its strategic plan to capture the large opportunities in the relatively young online advertising market. Our solid results for the first quarter of 2008 and increased full year 2008 operating cash flow outlook reflect the progress the company is making.”

Yahoo! has emerged a stronger web player after this ‘hostile bid’ and Microsoft has found a tough competitor in its own game. Lets see who wins finally, and the battle is far from over….

Download AVG 8 Free Antivirus Software [Quick Online Tips]

Posted: 04 May 2008 02:19 AM CDT

AVG Technologies has recently released the AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0, the latest version of popular free security software, which now incorporates protection against spyware through a new combined anti-virus and anti-spyware engine.

AVG 8 - Free Antivirus Software

AVG Free antivirus provides basic antivirus and antispyware protection for Windows and is available to download for free. However, it is to be noted it has limited features, no technical support, no server protection, limited languages and is for private and non-commercial use only. But if you need all those features, you need to pay for a commercial internet security software, or upgrade to the commercial version.

What Free AVG does not include - it does not include the proactive safe-surfing of the full LinkScanner module that is included in the commercial AVG products, nor the protection against hackers, keyloggers, spam, phishing attacks, rootkits and malicious file downloads that can come through instant messaging and attachments. The free product does not include 24 hour email support provided with the commercial products.

If you cannot afford to buy Norton Antivirus or McAfee antivirus and are looking for a basic free antivirus software on your computer or laptop, then download free AVG 8 antivirus - a great software to protect your computer from viruses. Remember AVG Free 8.0 is intended for personal and non-commercial use on single computers on home running Windows 2000, XP or Vista.

Try more free antivirus softwares and never worry about renewing your antivirus subscriptions again.

TweetWheel : A Cool New Way to Visualize Your Twitter Friends [dailyApps]

Posted: 03 May 2008 05:45 PM CDT

Karthik

If you are a having a slow weekend, and you happen to love cool new visualizations, then I got some great news for you. Yes you heard me right, you can now visualize all your Twitter friends in a cool new fashion all thanks to TweetWheel. Basically TweetWheel visualizes you and all the connections to your friends and their friends and you and soon.

All you have to do is enter your Twitter username (no password needed) and TweetWheel will go to work digging up all of your contacts, and then probing their contact lists. Please note that this can take some time, so you will have to be prepared to wait, probably with a cup of coffee in hand.

Once you are done with the long wait, you get to see a cool picture with all kinds of links between people here and there. You can’t make out much when you look at it directly, instead hover over a particular user to see all his connections.

Well the screenshot above is the visualization that was generated for me, and for the sake of comparison here’s is Scoble’s. I’m sure you can make out the obvious differences. Maybe you could help me a bit by following me on Twitter.

Screen Capture with Jing [Online Diary]

Posted: 03 May 2008 02:51 PM CDT

Jing, a concept project from TechSmith is a handy screen capture utility. It also adds up as a useful screencast utility.

One aim of the Jing project is to simplify the process of screen capture and screencasting and it does fulfill this aim. Jing has one of the simplest UI for taking screenshots.

In SnagIt you need to inform the app before hand whether you intend to capture a Window or a region. Jing automatically adjusts the capture boundary when you hover over the edge of the screen.

You can also highlight sections of the captured image, add text, frames and arrows. The Undo/Redo feature is also quite useful.

Jing2

The captured image can be:

  1. Saved locally
  2. Copied to a server via FTP
  3. Sent to Flickr
  4. Sent to Screencast.com

Even capturing video is as simple as capturing an image. Checkout one sample screencast I recorded with Jing :)

As usual I am again showing off my HTC Touch! I miss iPhone tough :(

Only complaint from my side is with respect to the stability of the application. Jing keeps crashing now and then and its also a memory hogger.

Do give Jing a try and if you are still not happy you might want to check this list !

Which screen capture tool do you use ?

WorldBlu Most Democratic Workplaces 2008 [Quick Online Tips]

Posted: 03 May 2008 01:11 PM CDT

WorldBlu has announced the second annual List of Most Democratic Workplaces as a part of Democracy in the Workplace initiative. The WorldBlu List 2008 is the result of WorldBlu’s global search for organizations practicing democracy in the workplace.

Organizations took the WorldBlu Democratic Workplace Scorecard and scored in the top level, were identified as the most democratic workplaces in the world. Democracy in the Workplace is gradually becoming a global movement towards creating workplaces that fully engage employees, giving them a voice and a stake in the outcome of their work and choose freedom rather than fear.

Hey! even our web hosting service Dreamhost is a Democratic workplace (another reason to love Dreamhost). Some other cool sites I found are BzzAgent (word-of-mouth media network), Linden Lab (Creator of SecondLife), MindValley (turns ideas into profitable internet businesses), Zimbio (browse online magazines). If you are a democratic workplace, you too can apply for WorldBlu List 2009

Tip : Import/Export Firefox Passwords With Ease [dailyApps]

Posted: 03 May 2008 11:25 AM CDT

export-passwords

Firefox happens to be my favorite browser. Being the person I am there is nothing on my Firefox install other than saved passwords and some toolbar bookmarks. For everything else I use online accounts like Del.icio.us, and other productivity sites like Remember the Milk.

But recently in a computer crash, I had to wipe out Windows and reinstall it from scratch. In the process, I lost all the saved passwords, and after the reinstall I was left scratching my head trying to remember the passwords.

Thanks to Sizlopedia I found a cool Firefox addon that does exactly what I was looking for.  Password Exporter adds the ability to view all of your saved passwords, and to export them in an encrypted or unencrypted file CSV or XML file. Whenever you wish to import those passwords to a different Firefox installation, just install Password Exporter again, find your file, and click the import button. Sounds simple isn’t it?

Well not so simple really. The catch is that Password Exporter is hidden in your security settings, which can be accessed by clicking Tools>Options>Security. Once you’re at the security screen, you should see the import/export passwords option :) .

I hope that Password Exporter will save a few headaches for you!

Prince of Persia is one of the most popular games of the world. Featuring some very cool free form fighting, running around walls etc, this game is a must play for all the game lovers. The last version in the series was The Two Thrones.

Ubisoft has announced that it will release a new version of POP by the end of 2008. The game will be developed by the Montreal Studios who were involved in the previous games. The game will feature a brand new gameplay style and a new illustrative art style. Unfortunately it will be released for XBOX 360 and PS3. Looks like PC gamers are going to miss out on this one unless the developers change there minds.

Have you played Prince Of Persia before? What are your thoughts on this one?

Bored or Wirting ? Beat it in just 10 steps [ Random Thoughts ] [Technospot.net]

Posted: 03 May 2008 09:44 AM CDT

Many a times I just get stuck and don’t have any brains for writing any technical article and even though I try a lot but it just does not work. So what do I do next ? Stop blogging ? Get into bloggers block ? Nope I just don’t because I do certain things which kicks it off.

  1. Human Nature doesn’t work normally when under too much pressure. Don’t push let it happen.
  2. Now you passed the first test …Now relax for some time. May be just go out with friends or whatever and let the EVIL BOREDOM be happy that you are not doing anything.
  3. Now your turn , come back and read something else. Which is absolutely not your types and do something like play game. EVIL BOREDOM is still happy.
  4. Now you start your machine in the back end….think of some non traditional way to write something or just something which you always wanted to do but you never did as its out of your niche.
  5. Write a small post and quit.
  6. Come back see it , write another and quit.
  7. Come back again open the post you wrote modify a little and post it.
  8. Now keep posting 4-5 times like this.
  9. See whats the reaction from people. Not good change the topic. The idea is to write on random topic , small posts and quick.
  10. After couple of days ( less then 5 ) you would see your interest is growing back to write what you used to. Do you know why ?

What we did here was just playing with the mind. Human Mind gets bored of doing same thing and sometimes he wants to do something which we restricts because its the way we think.

When you started writing something which was different your boredom was getting over. You loved doing it and it was like something new. Thats how we killed the Evil Boredom.

And thats what I am doing exactly here in my random thoughts
